Our Lady of the Scapular Parish Polish Festival canceled amid coronavirus pandemic

(WXYZ) — A popular Polish festival in Downriver is the latest event to be canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Our Lady of the Scapular Parish Polish Festival – scheduled for Aug. 28-30 – has been canceled.

"We held out some hope in March that it could take place, but as time has gone on, it was agreed with parish leadership not to do it this year," a post on Facebook read. "We understand it is a great disappointment to many, however, it is too risky from a health and financial point of view."

The festival said the popular raffle will still go on, and people can buy tickets with the drawing on Sunday, The first prize will be $12,000, second prize $2,000, third is $1,500 and fourth is $1,000.

Other popular Downriver festivals that have been canceled this year include the Uncle Sam Jam in Woodhaven, the Wyandotte Street Art Fair, Southgate Heritage Days and the Riverview Summerfest.
